JF Maintenance is a family carpentry team in Geelong. The trade goes back three generations to the 1950s, and the standard has not changed: do it right, and own it.

It began with Bob Moodie. He finished his carpentry apprenticeship and, two weeks later, started his own building company, M&D Homes, back in the 1950s. By the 70s and 80s he was bigger than Simonds Homes at the time. The trade, and the work ethic, came down through the family.
One story stuck. A surveyor pegged a house in the wrong spot, and it was built almost to lockup over the neighbour's boundary. Bob did not argue or make excuses. He got every one of his trades onto the site, and they took the house down and rebuilt it in a day. That is where our values come from: own your work, and make it right.
Michael and his dad Karl established JF Maintenance in Geelong in 2012, on the same family ABN. We are trade-qualified carpenters, not registered builders. We do all areas of carpentry and coordinate the other trades, the plasterer, painter, electrician and plumber, so the job leaves complete and you have one team to deal with.
It started with a simple need our customers kept raising: a door replaced, then painted, but the painter would not come for a month or two and the job sat there deteriorating. So we learned to do both, and to manage the trades, and get the whole job done in one visit. That is still how we work.
Around 80 to 90% of our clients come back. We have worked with Programmed for 12 years, and Barwon Water and Barwon Health for 10.
Bob trained the family in heritage and period carpentry, matching original timber detailing rather than patching over it. It is a skill few carpenters still carry, and it is one of the things we are most proud to offer on the older homes around Geelong.
