We have done plaster and fit-out work in Rippleside for a builder and a commercial client, and can repair its Edwardian and Victorian timber homes and the newer townhouses by the bay. A heritage area covers several of its older streets, so we check the rules before we start.
Rippleside is a small bayside suburb between the railway line and Corio Bay, with Rippleside Park and its new inclusive playspace.
Our 2 Rippleside jobs were a plaster patch for a builder and installing an overhead H-track on a building site, anchored and weight tested in a single visit. Older timber houses here need the same steady patching and fixing, done so it doesn’t show.
The Drumcondra and Rippleside Heritage Area takes in Victoria, Edward, Margaret and Walker Streets, Balmoral Crescent and Prospect Street, and is valued for its Edwardian timber houses with some Victorian and later bungalows. It has no paint or tree controls, and standard exemptions apply to fences and outbuildings. A few individually listed places, like 25 Balmoral Crescent, do control paint.
At the 2021 census 26% of homes were semis or townhouses, many on the former shipyards land, where a cap of 194 dwellings applies. The Stella Maris convent site on Bay Street is being sold off the plan as a new precinct, with the 1849 convent to be kept, and 53 Convent Place addresses were added in 2025. Newer homes need their first round of adjustments and outdoor work.

Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
By 1854 Rippleside had a hotel and a general store, and the Melbourne–Geelong railway, opened in 1857, still runs along its western edge. The Stella Maris convent on Bay Street dates from about 1849.
The 2021 census counted 994 residents with a median age of 47 and about 45% of homes owned outright. Edwardian timber streets and new bayside townhouses side by side are why the work here is careful repair and small additions.
