Door Installation Geelong: internal, external, cavity slider and barn doors

THE DOORS WE INSTALL

Internal doors, external doors, cavity sliders and barn doors

Most door installations are one of these. Security screen doors and seals often go in at the same time.

Internal doors

Flush, panel and solid-core doors for bedrooms, bathrooms and laundries, hung in new or existing jambs with the gaps even all round. Odd sizes are ordered to fit.

External doors

Front and back doors in solid core or timber, fitted with ball-bearing hinges, a seal at the bottom and the locks you want. We replace the jamb too when the old one is past saving.

Cavity slider doors

A door that slides into the wall, for a laundry, ensuite or pantry where a swinging door is in the way. We frame the cavity, hang the door and make good the wall around it.

Barn doors

A door that slides along the face of the wall on an exposed track. We fix the track into solid timber, hang the door level and fit the handle and lock.

GETTING IT RIGHT

Where new doors go wrong, and how we avoid it

Doors ordered to the wrong jamb

A door made for a 40 mm jamb won’t sit right in a 35 mm one. We check before ordering, and adjust hinges and strikers when the door is already here.

Openings out of square

Old frames are rarely square. We hang the door to the frame as it is, so the gaps run even and it closes without a shove.

Hardware that doesn’t match

Handles and locks don’t always suit the door they are sent with. We check they fit together before the door goes up.

Water at the threshold

Back doors take the weather. A hood, a bottom seal and a sealed jamb keep the rain out.

DOOR QUESTIONS

Door installation: common questions

Can you hang a door I have already bought?
Yes. We hang doors you supply as well as doors we order. If it was made for a different jamb size, we adjust the hinges and striker to suit.
What if my doorway isn’t a standard size?
Older homes often have odd-sized openings. We measure and order the door to suit, or cut a standard door down where that works.
Can a cavity slider go into an existing wall?
Yes. The wall is opened, the cavity frame goes in, and the wall is plastered, trimmed and painted again. The plastering and painting are done alongside our carpentry, so one team finishes it.
What does a barn door need?
Clear wall beside the opening for the door to slide along, and solid fixing for the track. A standard sliding door lock doesn’t always suit a barn door, so we sort out the privacy lock with you before we order.
Can you reuse my existing handles and locks?
Usually, yes, and we often do. If they are worn out, we fit new ones and can key them alike with your other doors.
