We can build sheds, verandahs and fences and repair homes in Little River’s township and on the rural blocks below the You Yangs. The locality is split between Wyndham and Greater Geelong, and the rules change at the line.
Little River is a small township by the station and the river, with acreage and farms stretching west to the You Yangs.
All of our 15 Little River jobs have been for commercial clients, among them a steel bollard replaced and anchored at the Melbourne-bound freeway service centre, a garden seat built with a treated-pine frame and composite decking to match an existing one, outdoor furniture installed and hoarding put up. The same practical carpentry suits a rural home or shed.
Most of the township is on the Wyndham side, with house blocks of about 1,000 square metres and low-density lots of about 4,000. In Wyndham’s Green Wedge Zone, an extension of more than 50 square metres needs a permit. On the Greater Geelong side, the Farming Zone allows an extension of up to 200 square metres or an outbuilding of up to 250 square metres without one, if it meets the setbacks and no overlay, such as the grasslands, landscape or flood overlay, sets a tighter limit.
On the Geelong side about 80 addresses are in a flood overlay, where extensions up to 20 square metres are exempt. Almost all of Little River is bushfire prone, with a Bushfire Management Overlay around the You Yangs. A landscape overlay covers the foothills, so we check the address before planning a shed or extension.

Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
The Travellers Rest Inn opened at Little River in about 1840, a township named Rothwell was surveyed in 1852, and the railway station and goods shed went up in 1857. The station is on the Victorian Heritage Register, and the Little River Band took its name from a road sign here.
The 2021 census counted 1,353 residents with a median age of 42, nearly all in separate houses and half with four or more bedrooms. Big blocks, two councils and fire rules are why the work here is planned before it is built.
Little River borders Lara, Balliang, Mambourin, Anakie, Point Wilson, Cocoroc, Quandong, Werribee and Avalon.
