We have done 13 jobs in Bannockburn, from swapping five old doors for hooded slab doors on a commercial building to making good after an NBN installation. A Woolworths-anchored town centre, the Holder Road industrial estate and the shire’s own offices keep the commercial side ticking over.
Bannockburn is the seat of Golden Plains Shire, with shops on High Street, an industrial estate on Holder Road and a growing list of schools, care and sporting sites.
Our 13 Bannockburn jobs include five doors replaced with timber slab doors, painted and given door hoods, plus a new striker on a steel door. We removed a broken mailbox from a commercial wall and patched the opening in cement sheet, did car-park repairs for a builder, and backfilled and cleared rubble after an NBN installation. Facility managers have also sent us to fix plaster and skirtings.
The Commercial 1 zone covers 8.5 hectares and 71 addresses, most of them on High Street. Stage one of Bannockburn Central opened in late 2022 with Woolworths, BWS, a chemist and the post office. A design overlay over most of the centre needs a permit for new buildings and works, though repairs and routine maintenance are exempt, and new work in the retail precinct must respond to existing buildings and sit back from heritage buildings such as the Shire Hall.
The Holder Road estate holds 85 addresses, and $3.1 million of stormwater works were funded to open up more than 21 hectares to the south. Bannockburn P-12 College, the first secondary school in the shire, sits alongside Estia Health’s aged-care home, emergency services, five childcare and outside-school-hours sites and Bannockburn Golf Club, whose course covers 49.5 hectares.

Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
The railway from Geelong to Ballarat came through in 1862 and settled the township’s future. Shire offices followed in 1864, a school in 1866, and a court and police lockup in 1869. The Bartter Steggles egg farm closed in 2008 with the loss of about 30 jobs.
The population grew nearly threefold between 1966 and 1991, and the growth plan approved in 2021 looks ahead to 2050 with land for employment and retail. A proposed south-east growth area includes a new local activity centre and schools, so the commercial side here is set to keep growing.
