We can fit out and repair shops on Pakington Street and Shannon Avenue, and we fix ceilings, joinery and common property for businesses, strata and builders. September’s planning changes mean more of Geelong West is set to become shops and apartments.
Geelong West’s business life runs along Pakington Street, with a smaller centre on Shannon Avenue.
The core of Pakington Street, between Autumn, Wellington and Waratah Streets, is a commercial heritage area, so changes to shopfronts and verandahs there need a heritage permit. Council’s new policy for the street, from September 2026, supports a mix of shops, entertainment, services and housing, and calls for a pocket park between the town hall and library. We can repair and match old timber shopfronts rather than replace them with something that doesn’t belong.
Commercial jobs among our 22 Geelong West jobs include checking sagging ceiling tiles near an ATM and the structure above them, adjusting drawers and dresser cupboard doors, retail display installs, grinding back a trip hazard for an owners’ corporation, fixing a dryer to a wall for a support provider, and a garage and verandah and a toilet install with tiling for builders.
The September 2026 amendment rezoned land around Gordon Avenue and the north end of Pakington Street for mixed use and higher density, with the panel describing heights of four to ten storeys in Pakington North. Sixteen apartments over ground-floor commercial are listed as approved at 85 Pakington Street, and the Pakington Strand centre sold in 2024, with up to six floors possible on its car park. Some former industrial sites must clear an environmental audit first.

Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
Donaghy’s Rope Works opened on Pakington Street in 1873 and became Geelong West’s largest industry; the old rope walk is on the Victorian Heritage Register, and the site is now a shopping centre. The Newberry foundry, from 1886, made cast iron for the suburb’s timber houses.
Geelong West was proclaimed a borough in 1875 and a city in 1929, and Pakington Street has been its main street throughout.
