We have done 28 jobs in Leopold, including building out a commercial kitchen and replacing doors and frames for a water authority. Gateway Plaza, with Coles, Kmart, Aldi and Bunnings, is the centre of local trade.
Leopold has no industrial land. Its commercial side is Gateway Plaza, a mixed-use centre on the highway, two small neighbourhood centres, care homes and busy sports grounds.
Gateway Plaza on the Bellarine Highway opened in 2007, was refurbished in 2017 and has 32,286 square metres of lettable area, over 50 specialty stores, Kmart, Coles, Aldi and Bunnings. Along Melaluka Road, the Bellarine Highway mixed-use centre has design rules preferring buildings no higher than 8 metres, lively frontages with outdoor dining, and at most two rows of angle parking along the highway. Dorothy Street and Ash Road have smaller shops.
Through a project manager we framed, insulated and plastered the walls of a commercial kitchen and fitted a half-glass door, then went back to fine-tune door stops, the closer and a drop seal. Over three jobs for a water authority we replaced a side door with a mortice lock and alarm magnet, built oversize double doors around pipework, and fabricated and clad a steel door frame with a powder-coated door and rain hood.
The Leopold Memorial Reserve’s $3.25 million upgrade opened on 30 June 2026 with multi-purpose courts, changerooms, Scout Hall toilets, cricket nets and a restored Memorial Arch. The town has two aged-care homes and a primary school. In December 2025 council voted to move forward with a homemaker centre on Melaluka Road, with Harvey Norman as the proposed anchor; it still has to be authorised and put on exhibition.

Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
In 1852, 526 hectares were offered for sale as the ‘Princely Domain of Kensington’, and Leopold stayed a rural community until the 1960s. Industry at Moolap and Point Henry then made it a convenient dormitory suburb, but shops and community buildings lagged behind the houses.
Gateway Plaza opened in 2007 and finally gave the town a big shopping centre. With a homemaker centre proposed next door and new housing on several edges, Leopold’s commercial side is still growing.
