We have done 4 jobs in and around Winchelsea, including a switch-room door handle that spun freely, door gaps closed at a utility site just out of town and an emergency make-safe. An industrial estate adding 24 lots and a new structure plan mean more to come.
Winchelsea has a heritage main-street centre, a highway business strip, an Industrial 1 estate and Hesse Rural Health’s hospital and nursing home.
Our 4 jobs include replacing a switch-room door handle that spun freely and packing out hinges to close door and jamb gaps at a utility site just out of town. For a facility manager we repaired a home within a set cost limit, and for an emergency trade service we pulled down a half-collapsed garage ceiling and protected the contents.
The town centre’s Commercial 1 zone covers 7.2 hectares and 80 addresses. Its design overlay allows 2 storeys, no more than 9 metres, with a single-storey street wall. Under the design overlay, altering only a shopfront needs no permit if it adds no external roller shutter and keeps at least 80% of the ground-floor front as entry or clear glazing, though heritage overlays cover about a quarter of the centre and may still need one. Heritage colours are asked for on doors, verandahs and window frames.
The Industrial 1 zone covers 29.1 hectares, and amendment C138 rezoned 3.9 hectares at 25 Cressy Road with a permit for 24 lots. A Commercial 2 strip of 6.5 hectares sits on the Princes Highway, and the $8.9 million pool opened in February 2025. Council’s structure plan is due in draft in mid-2027.

Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
The Barwon Inn opened at the river crossing in 1842, the stone arch bridge followed in 1867 and the railway from Geelong in 1876. A flax mill ran from 1941 to 1951.
William Lawrence built the Globe Theatre for moving pictures in 1926. Council now names Torquay and Winchelsea as the two main places for long-term growth, so the heritage main street and industrial land will keep needing care.
