We have done 23 jobs in Torquay, 16 of them for commercial clients: new doors, locks and handles, re-strung balustrades, fascia repairs and a beach-access ramp built to plans. A sub-regional town centre and 36 hectares of business park give plenty to look after.
Torquay has three supermarket centres, the Surf Coast Shire offices, a large business park and Baines Crescent, plus schools, care homes and surf clubs.
Across 16 commercial jobs we have replaced an external door with a slab door in a steel frame and fitted a door hood, repaired a snapped handle for a national facility manager, refitted lock plates and strikers, and ground off old guard-rail bolts that were a trip hazard. We re-strung 72 metres of wire balustrade, framed under nine new cabins, replaced decking boards and built a beach-access ramp on concreted footings.
The town centre’s Commercial 1 zone covers 14.9 hectares along Gilbert Street, Bristol Road and Bell Street. Its design overlay wants no more than two storeys and 8 metres in the central retail core, simple cantilevered awnings instead of verandah posts, and shopfronts that mix solid material with glass. Illuminated signs must be off between 11 pm and 7 am.
The West Coast Business Park and Baines Crescent hold 504 addresses in the Industrial 3 zone, with heights in the West Coast Business Park up to 12 metres more than 150 metres from the highway and 8 metres within 150 metres of it. In February 2026 council adopted a land strategy that raises the North Torquay commercial floor-area cap from 8,000 to 10,000 square metres and plans 11 more hectares of commercial land at Messmate Road. The Wurdi Baierr aquatic centre is due to open in early 2027.

Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Local entrepreneurs started Rip Curl making surfboards, and its factory saw the start of Quiksilver’s boardshorts in 1969 before Rip Curl moved into wetsuits in 1970. The old town area is around the Gilbert Street shops.
Surf World Museum opened in 1993, and in 2026 council shelved a cultural centre in favour of planning a new library and refurbishing the museum. Busy shops, surf brands and a growing business park are why the work here is steady and varied.
