Half of our 46 Highton jobs have been commercial, mostly for a water authority and for schools. We have lined a pump shed to cut noise, reclad a building, refixed a school deck and replaced its balustrade battens, and built a fence along a retaining wall in the holidays.
Highton has no industrial land. Its commercial side is Highton Village, the Barrabool Hills centre, five school campuses, aged care and utility sites.
Across 11 jobs for a water authority we have framed and lined a pump shed with acoustic insulation and plaster, reclad a building with new windows, flashings and fascia, painted a basin site, repaired a pump-station lock and traced a building lock fault, adjusted a compound gate and filled storm-damaged driveway potholes.
We have done 8 jobs for Highton schools: suspended ceilings re-hung and tiles replaced, toilet-block panels taken off so a plumber could fix a leak, a deck refixed and 18 balustrade battens replaced, a lockable access hatch cut in, 40 wifi repeaters installed and a fence built in the holidays. A medical clinic’s ceiling tiles were replaced over the Christmas break.
Since 8 January 2026, Highton Village has new commercial zoning and a design overlay with preferred maximum heights of 9 to 15 metres. New awnings are to keep 3.5 metres clear above the footpath and match their neighbours, shopfronts need clear glazing up to 2.5 metres across at least 40 per cent of the frontage, and any fence needs a permit. Part of the Village is also in a flood overlay.

John Highett’s land became the Montpellier vineyard, hotel and picnic ground, and by the mid-1860s there were several vineyards on the hills. Highton stayed rural until the mid-1950s.
The Highton shopping centre in Belle Vue Avenue was built in the mid-1960s, and in 2026 it was rezoned with room to grow to four storeys.
