We have done 11 jobs in South Geelong, nine of them commercial: new locks, a replacement toilet block with a disability ramp, grab rails and asphalt repairs for a water authority, plus ceiling tiles, security panels and shed doors for local businesses.
South Geelong mixes a 40,000-capacity stadium, old woollen mills, a long run of industrial land and a Moorabool Street now zoned for shops below new homes.
For a water authority we have replaced an old toilet block with two new toilet units and built a disability ramp, swapped a broken toilet-door lock, fitted a deadlock and replaced snapped grab-rail bolts with high-strength screws. Accessible toilets take hard use, so we choose fixings that hold.
About 127 hectares of South Geelong is industrial land, with addresses along Fyans Street, Hede Street and Gravel Pits Road. We have replaced ceiling and strip tiles for a motor dealer, refitted window security panels and added drop pins to shed doors at a trade supplier. Around 40 hectares sits under a Floodway Overlay, so outdoor works are checked against it before we quote.
Since August 2025 the planning scheme has backed shops, offices and cafés on the ground floor along Moorabool Street and around the rebuilt station. On Moorabool Street, street walls are set at 11 metres, or three storeys, with continuous awnings asked for. In the West Fyans precinct, a street fence that is solid or over 1.5 metres, or of unpainted galvanised steel or uncoated wire, needs a permit.

Michael worked with our budget and we were so impressed by their diligence and workmanship. They did not cut corners but went the extra mile. So impressed we engaged them again at another property.
Beyond our expectations, and it was great to work with people who could turn our ideas into something better than we imagined. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Prompt, great communication and a terrific job. Have used JF Maintenance for lots of work over the years and would recommend.
Godfrey Hirst started out in a shed in Fyans Street and bought his mill site in 1899. The Valley Worsted Mills ran from 1924 to 1973, and Gravel Pits Road was home to the wool scourers.
Shops and businesses once lined Moorabool Street from Kardinia Park to Barwon Terrace. With the stadium rebuild finished in 2024, the planning scheme now encourages ground-floor trade on the street again.
