Our job in Thomson was faulty door hardware on a utility equipment cabinet: we packed the doors at the hinge so they latched, then lubricated every lock, latch and handle until everything closed and locked. On a busy campus or school, doors and hardware are the repair that never stops.
The Gordon’s East Geelong campus, which Vicmap places in Thomson, has automotive, construction and engineering workshops, a senior college and a 50-room residence. Geelong East Primary had Block A rebuilt for $3.39 million, Tate Street Primary got a permanent modular building and a toilet upgrade, and St Margaret’s School is on St Albans Road.
Thomson and Breakwater kindergartens, the Geelong Children’s Centre and the East Geelong Senior Citizens Club are all here. The shopping zone covers 27 addresses on Ormond Road, Boundary Road, Breakwater Road and The Walk, where small shops need counters, shelving and repairs.

Thomson began as a State Housing Commission estate finished in 1953, and a state technical school opened in 1958, later becoming a Gordon campus.
